Description

Synthetic photometry is done now in a pretty crude way using tophat approximations for the filter transmission curves of e.g. the Spitzer IRAC and MIPS filters. This can be done much better by using the transmission curves made available by the instrument teams. Particular care should be given to using the correct effective wavelength, the official definition of the "quoted flux" and/or zero magnitude point and whether the instrument is a photon or energy counting device. All this should be done in a modular way such that new photometric systems can easily be added. Likely we will also need a mechanism for the user to choose systems that need to be included in the output as there are many, many different photometric systems.

Once this is implemented, we also need to think about including this into other commands, such as the STOP and OPTIMIZE commands.
